Good curry, good value for money

On arriving at the hotel, I was told that it was a 5 minute walk by the hotel staff from Essex road train station but this was more like a 15 minute- 20 minute walk carrying my case, so would have been better to have got a cab. Area is not great but near to where I was going. The hotel receptionist was unfriendly and a bit abrupt clearly wanting the money before I had chance to come through the door. The room itself was dark, small and extremely hot as the heater was on full, the window was nailed shut, but a fan was provided to circulate the hot air.It was noisy at night because it was on the road side, and you had to hold the shower head in the shower because it was broken. The curry they serve was good and was good value for money. The breakfast was continental as I had expected but did not offer a great deal of choice, and it would have been good to have had a decaffinated option.

    Good

The location as we were visiting friends in the area

The bed was hard, the room was tiny, there was no light in the bathroom, the lift seemed very unsafe, the floor in the room sloped downwards

    Fabulous

The proximity to Angel and shopping stores

Tommy Miahs Raj Hotel on the Essex Road in Islington is a perfectly good value but decent quality hotel in North London. It’s extremely well served by public transport from Angel tube station [which, by the way is on the Northern line not the Victoria line] and is only 5mins away from all the bars/restaurants that area offers. It’s also very close to Essex Road train station which takes you straight into the City eg Moorgate. The room was clean, the shower room was perfectly adequate [if a little small] and the bed was fine though the mattress was a tad thin. To be honest, for the cost and taking into consideration it’s in a very handy location in London, this is a good value hotel for a short stay.

Convenience and taxi co. Next door.

On one morning we had a crumpet that was mouldy and it was pointed out to the reception staff and all the crompets were removed. But no serving staff came to apologise, the lady at reception did when I originally complained. I am unsure if I could recommend this hotel.

    Good

The hotel rates that we paid represented good value for money. The Hotel was clean and very well located with bus stops just outside the Hotel giving an excellent service to and from the City centre.

The windows in our room, which was street facing, were single glazed. The noise level could be significantly reduced if the windows were triple glazed. Also while there was a mirror in the en-suite there was none in the bedroom itlesf which caused annoyance to my wife. The lighting in the en-suite was poor.

    Very good

The situation: near fashionable Shoreditch and Islington.

    Very good

The hotel was on a good bus route into Victoria Station. The continental breakfast was ample.

The beds were on a bit of a slant so you rolled to one side, not sure if it was the slope of the floor. We only had duvets on bed ,no top sheet & as it was summer it got a bit hot during night.

    Superb

The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Continental breakfast was included - the fruit was good as well. The location is excellent for access to anywhere. Some rooms can be subject to traffic noise . I stayed in two different rooms - one with traffic noise and one very quiet - both were clean and comfortable.

The rooms are small - however because I only used it for sleeping this did not really matter.

    Fabulous

The staff were very helpful.I had a second floor room overlooking the main road with a street light right outside the window. I asked to be moved to a quieter room and the reception staff were very accommodating and sorted out another room for me at once. The room was pleasant and clean.I have stayed here several times when in London on business and would do so again as it in a good location for me, though it is a bit of a way from the nearest Tube ( Angel)

    Superb

The room was very clean, we had a private bathroom, the breakfast was international and there were a lot to eat. The receptionist (a girl) wasn't very proactive, but the rest of the staff was kind and nice.

There were no room-darkening curtains and in the morning the light was quite disturbing.

    Very good

It is a cute hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful throughout. The restaurant/dining area was comfortable. Light and airy, making for a pleasant atmosphere.

The room was extremly basic. The bathroom had no surface to place or store anything and the shower cubicle was tiny. Also, the showerehead was loose and therefore drooped making it impossible to shower in a normal position. I must point out though, we only stayed 1 night so seemed pointless to get them to fix it for us. I doubt it would have been any trouble to them, had we asked to swap rooms or have it repaired.

    Fabulous

Staff extremely polite and helpful.Bathroom was the cleanest i have seen in a long time.breakfast was great, massive selection ot food and coffee was actually drinkable.

Pillows were a bit too flimsy and curtains kept out no light at all but for one night it was fine.

Good location - ok of you just need somewhere to sleep/ not spending much time in the room.

We ate in the restaurant, which wasn't goodat all , I would recommend eating out.

I pretty much hated everything about this hotel, it was awful. Angel tube station was a bit of a walk from the hotel but it was in central London and that is all I can say that is not bad about this hotel. It is awful

    1. We were asked to pay in full the minute we arrived, we had not seen our room and most hotels take a credit card as security and you pay when you leave. We arrived a bit early, I paid in full by cash but I was told I could not get a receipt until later as I could not be officially checked in until 2pm, to be fair, we were able to drop in our luggage and wander off to get lunch. 2. the room was tiny and like a sauna, there was no air conditioning and no fan. It was raining outside!we had to open the window to get air 3.the window was not double glazed, the noise from the street was really loud and between that and the heat in the room, we got no sleep over the 3 nights and we could not hear the T.V. over the noise. 4. the shower head holder was broken, reception ignored my request for this to be fixed and for a fan. 5.There was no shower gel or shampoo. The bed was not made up properly and sheet came off too easily, the bed was too low to the ground for comfort. 6. the bathroom was tiny, shower was tiny, there was a loud noise coming from the bathroom all night. No soap holder. Food in the restaurant was average and overpriced, and the hotel was definitely overpriced.7. The walls were wafer thin and we had to listen to a baby cry and other things during our stay. The sad bit is that if they had fixed the shower and had no ignored my request and given us a fan,it may have greatly improved our stay.I Would not stay here again. In summary ,it was overpriced, not a 3 star hotel,1 star maybe, the room and bathroom were tiny, in disrepair, very little furniture,no wardrobe, too hot and noisy, stuffy,no shower gel/shampoo provided and staff were useless.the food was plain and overpriced,we found a lovely take away down the road, half the price but gorgeous food.
